HiFi Guru – Ben’s Personal Experience with Rega
My first turntable was an original Rega Planar 3 from the 80’s with the famous RB300 tonearm. It came with a modestly priced Garrott brothers MM cartridge. This was my introduction into vinyl and I’ve been in love with the medium ever since.
My journey took me down the path of a higher end MC cartridge, a better mat and eventually the 24 volt motor upgrade with an external power supply. I was blown away by the improvements. A few small tweaks here and there and the quality of the resulting sound was incredible. My modestly priced Rega turntable often made my friends and colleagues jealous, as their turntables, often twice the price, sounded nowhere near as good as mine.
